Guitar Lessons in Santa Cruz and Cupertino, CA

We teach guitar lessons to students of all ages, from 7-year-old children to adults. Younger kids start with foundational classes before focusing on guitar.

We recommend owning an instrument to practice at home, acoustic or electric. Haven't bought one yet? Our instructors can point you toward a solid beginner guitar and amp.

Either works, but many beginners find electric easier to start on; a thinner neck, lighter strings, and lower action make chords comfortable to play.

Cost depends on lesson length and how often you meet. Guitar lessons run 30 to 90 minutes weekly, with half-month plans for twice-monthly sessions and one-off lessons for casual learners. Most beginners are playing easy guitar songs within a few months of weekly lessons and steady practice. Consistency matters more than the length of any single session — fifteen focused minutes a day builds skills faster than two hours once a week. Practicing with a metronome develops the internal rhythm and timing that every other skill rests on, and learning your favorite songs early is usually what keeps motivation up through the slow stretches.

Beginner guitar lessons start with how to hold the guitar and tune it. Basic technique and posture come before chords and strumming patterns, and establishing comfortable playing technique in those first lessons makes everything after that easier. Physical adjustments like building calluses and finding finger positioning are expected early on. From there, your teacher builds a clear path through chords, rhythm, fingerpicking, and theory at a pace that matches your goals.

Guitar lessons come in private, online, and group formats, and the best format depends on your learning style and skill level. In-person lessons offer tailored feedback and fast progress, since a teacher can adjust your hand position in the room. Online guitar lessons offer one-on-one video feedback and let you learn at your own pace from anywhere, which suits a busy week better than a drive. Group guitar classes provide a social environment that helps beginners build confidence. Free YouTube tutorials can teach you a lot, but structured courses with a teacher who actually watches you play are what keep self-taught players from getting stuck.
