Based off of Ray Brown's University-level Jazz Pop Music Theory Class
APPLIED JAZZ THEORY I
The Basics: Jazz Theory I class starts by covering basic Jazz Theory Fundamentals, like learning the basics of note-writing, rhythm exercises, the major scales, chord building, the circle of fifths, and the diatonic system. Jazz Theory I will begin with worksheets but will quickly move into applying it to your instrument, regardless of what you play. Including composition and the theory nerd. The class will finish off with basic Jazz Improvisation, chord progression, and the introduction to jazz standards and basic harmonic analysis.

APPLED JAZZ THEORY II
Jazz Theory II: This class picks up where Jazz Theory I class ends and will focus deeper into the diatonic system, harmonic analysis for improvisation, Jazz standards, and a variety of Jazz rhythms, including Swing, Bossa Nova, and other Latin rhythms. This class will also introduce substitution chords and alternative scales like the bebop, alternate and modal scales.

Costs & Details
Prerequisite for Theory I
No experience is necessary although students should be able to play basic scales and chords on their instrument.
Prerequisite for Jazz Theory II
You must pass Jazz Theory I or equivalent, which may require an audit.
9 HOUR COURSE | MON/FRI 6:00 - 7:30 | FOR AGES 12 TO ADULT
Please be aware: You will be required to bring in your instrument by 2nd class
Cost: $350 - 9 Hour Workshop
Partial Scholarship may be available (Payment is due on the first day of class)
